Opened in April 2006, Players fast became Newcastle’s biggest student bar. Located in The Gate complex it is spread over two different floors.
The ground floor’s main attraction is it's huge, colourful and loud horseshoe bar and entertaining podium for its “All Star” dancers and B boys. Upstairs boasts a second bar and chill out area with two pool tables. Players has a large glass fronted exterior to emphasize its open plan and cramp free atmosphere.
The decor is a modern, trendy and young design. Along with two podiums, a dance floor and the “Players Lounge”, which can be hired out free of charge from Sunday to Thursday.
Players has a vast array of credible DJ’s playing a diverse range of music from indie, R&B dance cutting edge and classics, giving the bar and customers something new every night of the week.
All available football matches are televised on the largest screen in Newcastle which is situated on the wall behind the horseshoe bar. On Newcastle United home match days Players has pre and post match entertainment and therefore it attracts a large sport crowd as well as a large student crowd on weeknights. There are also several wide screen TVs situated throughout the venue showing premiership football and other sporting events with drinks offers for every televised match. The bar attracts a wide range of clientele, and caters for every individual need.
Disabled access in the venue is very good, with a disabled toilet at the rear on the ground floor.
